Members of the Mitchell Shire Concert Band have been hard at work to soon deliver an engaging concert, featuring excerpts from Les Misérables and a salute to Broadway favourites.
Band president Nigel Divito said the concert was certainly a highlight of the year for the Mitchell Shire performers.
“A big thing I’d say about the concert is that, when we practise and rehearse each Tuesday night, it gives us a focus because we’re not just going in there and playing some music, and then we go home. It’s leading to something,” he said.
“We’re building up to something that’s really good, and playing in front of a crowd is always great. It’s very rewarding to look out and see family and people you know, and to, hopefully, hear the applause.”
Band secretary Elizabeth Bedggood agreed.
“It’s the same gratification that a painter would get in an exhibition; to be able to see the culmination of their efforts,” she said.
While the band does host smaller performances throughout the year, the concert is its most anticipated event.
Held at the Seymour College Arts Centre on the corner of Loco and Anglesey Sts, the concert will commence at 2pm on Sunday, October 26.
Tickets cost $5 for children, $10 for adults and $20 for families (consisting of two adults and two children).
Proceeds made are set to be funnelled into the band’s learner program, teaching less-experienced future members how to play an instrument of their interest.
Mr Divito said, while ticket sales would aid the band’s future growth, the performance was far from being about profit.
“The concert’s not about making money,” he said.
“We may lose a bit, but that’s fine. If we pick up a few new members from this, we’d be really happy because that’s injecting new blood into the band, which is always good.
“The other thing about the concert is it gives families and friends an opportunity to see their precious loved ones performing ... At the concert, it’s great to see them up on stage.”
