In partnership with the Berrigan Shire, Edward River, and Federation councils, the plan aims to strengthen the region’s ability to manage future climate and drought challenges.
“This plan reflects our shared commitment to working together and building on local knowledge to create a more resilient future,” the Mayors said in a joint statement.
Co-funded by the federal and NSW governments, the plan outlines practical initiatives to support sustainable landscapes, economic diversification, and community wellbeing.
Regional NSW Minister Tara Moriarty said the Regional Drought Resilience Planning Program acknowledges each region’s unique needs.
“We know drought is biting southern NSW right now, so we want our communities to be prepared and ready to act with plans in place,” she said.
Key initiatives from the plan include foundations for renewable energy and water buyback investment, and a regional water bank to retain local water and support irrigation and environmental outcomes.
A climate change co-ordinator, workshops and AgTech extension, an environmental market prospectus, wellness and producer support, and food producer coordination will also be implemented.
The plan aligns with national drought resilience programs and will evolve through ongoing collaboration with community groups, industry, and research institutions.
