For some it was even their first time to Melbourne.
Organiser Daryl Howard, Senior Sergeant Garry Barton and Robyn Carroll travelled with the boys for the Melbourne V Carlton match with the Demons winning by a goal in a thriller, adding to the excitement.
“It is always a great experience, being able to take these boys both to a place they have never been and to watch a professional football match they have never seen live before,” Daryl said.
“It is through the help of the primary schools and a number of local businesses that we are able to achieve this.
“Melbourne Football Club have also been so generous, allowing us the opportunity to bring these students to a Demons match for nine years now.
“McDonalds at Wallan North bound provide meals for dinner on the way home for everyone who made the trip and Bunnings also donated a footy to each of the boys so they could have a kick around at home when they reminisce about their footy trip.”
Without the support of local businesses; Burke’s Hotel Social Club, Melbourne Football Club, The Crusty Loaf Bakery, Kennedy Builders, Yarrawonga Batteries, Yarrawonga Brake & Clutch, T & J Constructions, Pirates Treasure, Woods Transport, Brookes Grain, Bunnings Yarrawonga, McDonald’s Wallan Northbound and Sun Country Bus Hire this trip would not be possible.
“One mother rang the school to thank us and to say her son had the best day ever and had never been to the football before,” Daryl said.
“That is why we do it and why we thank those local businesses that support us so much as it allows us to give these boys one of the best days they’ve had so far.”
