The annual event supports the Deniliquin Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay team, which is working to make the most of its final two years before the charity ride wraps up in 2027.
Funds raised locally go directly toward items on the hospital’s wish list, equipment not traditionally government‑funded but vital for patient care.
Deni riders have been part of the relay since its first year in 1987, and the community once again turned out in force to back their efforts.
This year’s Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay will be held next Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29.
Youth Centre opening success
The Edward River Youth Centre, formerly the Deniliquin CWA Hall, officially opened its doors yesterday, with a strong community turnout for the launch event.
The informal gathering and barbecue ran from 3pm to 6.30pm and marked the beginning of a new youth‑focused chapter for the Harrison St building.
Established by the Deniliquin Youth Initiative, the centre aims to provide safe, inclusive spaces and practical opportunities for young people across the region.
Initiative president Nicole Young said community involvement will be vital to the centre’s long‑term success, with volunteers, mentors and local business support now being sought.
The PT popped along to the opening. More details and photos will be in Tuesday’s edition.
Free waste weekend at the Deni Landfill
Edward River Council will host a free waste weekend at the Deniliquin Landfill this Saturday and Sunday, from 8.30am to 1pm each day.
Tip fees will be covered by council, allowing residents to dispose of eligible household waste at no cost.
Accepted items include general household waste, green waste, white goods, furniture, up to two mattresses per household and one couch per household.
Commercial and industrial waste, tyres, concrete, and construction or demolition materials will not be accepted.
Hardinge St works continue
Edward River Council is continuing water main relocation works along Hardinge Street as part of preparations for the next stage of the Hardinge Street Road Reconstruction Project.
A 40km/h speed limit is now in place between Ochtertyre St and Harfleur St, with works running Monday to Saturday, 7am to 5pm, from March through to August 2026.
Rams v Rovers
The Picola and Murray League season openers are fast approaching, which means local teams are ramping up training and fitness.
To be match ready, there’s even some practice matches being organised.
And this weekend that includes local friendly games between the two Deniliquin clubs.
The Deniliquin Rams and Deniliquin Rovers will be facing each other on the netball courts to get their feet moving and hearts pumping.
The games will be held on neutral turf, at the Deniliquin Netball Assication courts at Memorial Park.
The C-reserve and under-15s team will play from 10am, B-grade from 11am, and A-grade and under-13s from noon.
Supporters are more than welcome to head along and show their support.
Both league seasons start at Easter, although some local teams have byes in the first round.
Irish touch
It’s possibly not celebrated as fervently as it once was, but some chose to mark the traditional Irish holiday of St Patrick’s Day this week.
Held March 17 each year, St Patrick’s Day honours the patron saint of Ireland with global festivities marking Irish culture, heritage, and the arrival of Christianity.
Originally a religious feast day, it has evolved into a, vibrant, globally celebrated event featuring parades, green clothing, shamrocks, and Irish food and music.
In Deniliquin, one of the most visible tributes to this day was at Cherrywood Emporium in Napier St.
Business owner Jennifer Pate had her trademark emus decked out in green tinsel and green hats for the occasion.
