And that means it’s also been 31 years since Mrs Phillips became a member of the Deniliquin Business Chamber.
Her more than three decades of dedication to the business community, and through it the betterment of the community overall, has now been honoured by chamber.
Mrs Phillips was awarded the 2022 Chamber Champion Award, which is for an “individual who has continuously demonstrated leadership in the Deniliquin business community and strengthened business networks and collaboration”.
In announcing the award at the Business Excellence Awards last Friday night, chamber president Paula Rutter said this year’s award “recognises an outstanding business leader, long-time community volunteer and staunch advocate for commercial and community success”.
Mrs Phillips was unfortunately unable to attend to accept the honour in person.
“I was delighted,” she said of the surprise award.
“I didn’t expect anything, as I do what I do because I truly love where I live - I love Deni.
“But I am very grateful and appreciative of the award.”
As part of her efforts in supporting the business community and the community overall, Mrs Phillips hosts an annual Daffodil Day event outside her shop each August.
Held just days before the Business Awards, the fundraiser has raised more than $5000 for the Cancer Council so far.
Mrs Phillips also contributes to the community as an active member of the Deniliquin Rotary Club.
