Women who choose Benalla Health for their maternity care will be supported by known midwives who work closely with regional maternity partners including Northeast Health Wangaratta and Goulburn Valley Health to help co-ordinate the care pathway that best suits their needs.

Benalla Health’s new maternity services manager, Zoe Andrus, said the service was focused on ensuring women felt informed, supported and connected throughout pregnancy and after birth.

“We want women to know they have choices when it comes to maternity care,” Ms Andrus said.

“By connecting with Benalla Health early in pregnancy, women can access care closer to home, build relationships with known midwives and receive support to navigate their pregnancy journey and preferred place of birth.”

Ms Andres said Benalla Health welcomed referrals for all pregnant women living in Benalla and surrounding communities, including women with low, moderate and high-risk pregnancies.

Following referral, women receive an initial assessment and support to explore the most appropriate maternity pathway based on their individual circumstances, preferences and clinical needs.

Executive director clinical services Lisa Waite said the service reflected Benalla Health’s commitment to providing safe, supported local maternity care in partnership with regional health services.

“Our focus is on improving women’s experience through continuity of care, informed choice and strong partnerships with our regional maternity services,” Ms Waite said.

“We encourage local women and families to have a conversation with their GP about a referral to Benalla Health so they can learn more about the options available to them.”
