Local sisters Izzy and Tessa Ryan have always made their parents proud, but they are going one step further this weekend, cutting and shaving their hair for the World’s Greatest Shave.

On the Malibu Deck at the Mulwala Water Ski Club this Sunday, March 20 at around 1pm Izzy will be shaving her head and Tessa will be cutting her hair to play their part in helping to support people suffering with leukaemia.
The Ryan girls decided to take on the challenge to help raise money to support the Leukaemia Foundation as their father, Brant ‘Brutis’ Ryan was diagnosed with leukaemia at age 19 and thanks to organisations like the Leukaemia Foundation, he is still alive today.
“We want to support the Leukaemia foundation to help find a cure for this blood cancer,” Tessa said.
“I’m cutting mine short and shaving the sides as that is what I wanted and have been growing it out since about 2017.
“Dad was diagnosed with CML (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia) in 1990 and has long out lived his life expectancy and continues to do well on treatment thanks to organisations like this,” Izzy added.
“I’m shaving mine, probably down to number 2 and have been growing it about the same amount of time.
“We are hoping to raise $5000 or more and will continue to raise money after the shave date.
“The money will go towards lifesaving research, and to help build facilities to do vital testing and research.”
110,000 Australians are living with a blood cancer or related disorders right now.
Support makes sure that families facing blood cancer have a place to call home during treatment and someone to turn to for support and guidance.
The Leukaemia Foundation believe all Australians should be able to readily access the proven best care to help them survive a blood cancer diagnosis. Sadly, this isn’t already the case.
The Blood Cancer Treatment: Set The Standard campaign is calling for a new set of national standards, so no matter who a person is or where they live, all Australians can access the best possible blood cancer treatment that’s right for them.
Both Izzy and Tessa are doing their part in making sure the standard becomes more nationally recognised and are hoping that you can play your part by donating to this great cause.
As of Tuesday, the girls fundraising effort reached an impressive $3,325.
To donate, visit the Worlds Greatest Shave, click donate and search for Tess and Izzy.
You can also donate on the day so make sure to get down to the ski club from 11am this Sunday to witness the girls shave their hair for a great cause.
“We are very excited and looking forward to the shave day on Sunday at the Mulwala Water Ski Club from 11am and we’ll be shaving before 2pm,” both girls said.
“We would like to give a huge shoutout to Tegan Lee from Untangled Wigs in Bayly Street Mulwala for donating her time and expertise to shave our heads.
“And a big thanks to the Ski Club for letting us do the shave at the deck.
“We hope to see some people there where we will be doing some last-minute fundraising.”
