Some 20 brave souls faced a pit of iced water at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve on Sunday, an already icy winter’s day exacerbated by grey skies and persistent drizzling rain.
The Big Dunk was all in the name of a good cause, and despite the weather keeping many footy fans inside the warmth of their cars around the boundary line, almost $9500 was raised for MND Victoria, in memory of Shepparton’s Karen Gladigau, who lost her fight with the disease early last year.
The event was organised by Mooroopna Junior Football Club and Karen’s former workplace, the Shepparton Women’s Health Centre, along with Karen’s husband, Dean Gladigau, who was the dunkee dressed as a metalhead in his Metallica T-shirt and long-locked wig.
More than 100 spectators braved the rainy conditions to support the event.
