Driving lesson goes horribly wrong

A learner driver and her grandfather were lucky to escape serious injury when they were involved in a two-car collision on Easter Saturday.

The grandfather, who was a passenger in the car, said they were driving from Yarrawonga to Tungamah to help his granddaughter get her driving hours up.

At about 1pm, as they approached the Benalla Rd and Katamatite Rd intersection, he said he could see the other car approaching but knew there was a give way sign.

“But they didn’t stop,” he said.

Both he and his granddaughter received bruising from seatbelts but were otherwise not seriously injured.

“Everyone was taken to Wangaratta Hospital,” he said.

“My granddaughter was very, very shaken.

“But I’d like to thank the first responders; they were very good.”

Both cars sustained major damage, but it is unknown whether the occupants of the other car were seriously injured or if any charges have been laid.
