The big boats are fantastic, but this year’s EC Griffith Cup carnival will now feature a new high-octane attraction for locals and visitors with Red Bull Air Racing World Champion Matt Hall and his team performing and offering joy flights throughout the four-day April event.
The EC Griffith Cup boat racing carnival is set to take off with confirmation that current Red Bull Air Race World Champion Matt Hall will attend and perform at the April event.
Red Bull Air Race World Champion Matt Hall will bring an action-packed aerial show over Lake Mulwala for April’s EC Griffith Cup and Yarrawonga Fair weekend.

Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and Business (YMTB) Executive Officer Noel Wright said the introduction of Matt Hall Racing to the EC Griffith Cup and Yarrawonga Fair weekend takes the event to a new level.
“The boats are fantastic, but Matt Hall Racing (MHR) adds a completely new high-octane attraction for locals and visitors to enjoy,” Mr Wright said.
“The MHR aerial displays added to a full program of powerboat racing, onshore thrill rides, sideshow alley, markets, food trucks, statics displays, a bar area and a VIP area on the Sienna Daisy will surely be a weekend of adrenalin packed action for the whole family.”
YMTB have also extended the event over four days from April 21 to 24 and is aiming to also include a street parade of the boats with race teams.
Mr Wright said it was good news last year that the Victorian Speed Boat Club (VSBC) have been officially granted the EC Griffith Cup for a further three years.
“Because of the partnership between YMTB and VSBC it means Lake Mulwala will be the venue for the powerboat spectacular in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
“YMTB also acknowledge the support from the Yarrawonga Holiday Park Committee of Management whose financial assistance was of paramount importance in achieving the commitment of Matt Hall Racing to the EC Griffith Cup and Yarrawonga Fair program.
“Matt and his flying friends will perform two shows on Saturday, April 22 and two shows on Sunday, April 23.”
Mr Wright said each show will include a solo display and two-ship formation flying.
“For the adrenalin junkies, Red Bull Aerobatic experiences will also be available, but bookings are essential for this once in a lifetime experience,” he said.
The event, held in April in 2021 and 2022 has brought millions of dollars into the local economy, attracting several thousand spectators from all over the region making it one of the region’s biggest events.
“It is important to the financial success of our community to host large events, such as the EC Griffith Cup and the Lake Mulwala Rod Run particularly when the events are during the off-peak times of the year,” Mr Wright said.
Mr Wright encourages all businesses that are not tourism members to join and provide the financial support so YMTB can source and secure additional events in the same vein.
“Events like these also need a positive reaction from residents directly affected by the road closures, and although we have a small and dedicated volunteer base, we also need more community members to volunteer at the bar, on entry gates and pit gates. We are planning now for another big event and the economic benefits will hopefully come again.”
