The Inner Wheel Club of Yarrawonga Mulwala is preparing for its annual Two for Ten Walk, and easy 2km route around Chinaman’s Island, one of the region’s most scenic walks, combining fresh air, community, and meaning.
Inner Wheel member, June Lavis has helped coordinate the walk and said it would be lots of fun with wonderful views of the Yarrawonga Mulwala Bridge and the lake; one of Yarrawonga’s most scenic experiences.
The Two for Ten Walk is part of a national Inner Wheel initiative to raise for cord blood research, a vital area of medicine transforming lives.
Cord blood stem cells are already used to treat almost 80 conditions.
Hundreds of clinical trials are investigating therapies for conditions once considered untreatable, including cerebral palsy, autism, Parkinson’s disease, Type 1 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and leukaemia.
In 2025, the first Australian child with cerebral palsy received their own cord blood treatment.
This breakthrough highlights the crucial role fundraising plays in advancing research.
Funds from the walk support the National Stem Cell Foundation of Australia, enabling researchers to explore new therapies and treatments that could change thousands of lives.
Participants can enjoy more than a walk.
There will be a sausage sizzle, raffle prizes, and a chance to connect with family, friends, and visitors, all while supporting a vital cause.
Organisers stress that everyone can make a difference, whether walking, donating, or spreading the word.
“We are women in action, working together to make a difference and improve lives,” June said.
Women and girls interested in joining the club are invited to attend meetings at the Yarrawonga Golf Club on the first Thursday of each month.
