Visiting restrictions and the limitations of the existing palliative care room made it difficult for the family to find moments of respite or comfort together during their stay.
Determined to turn their experience into something meaningful, the McLarty family have created and donated special ‘Comfort Boxes’ to Yarrawonga Health’s Palliative Care Room.
Each box has been thoughtfully filled with items designed to bring a little warmth and connection to families spending precious time with their loved ones; things to share, to spark conversation, or simply to offer a brief moment of solace in the midst of an incredibly challenging time.
“During our time in palliative care, we realised how important the little things were - a way to connect, a distraction, or a small reminder that we weren’t alone,” Maurz said.
“We wanted to make sure that no other family felt as isolated as we did.”
The donation of the Comfort Boxes coincides with Yarrawonga Health’s planned refurbishment of the Palliative Care Room; a milestone step toward creating a more comfortable, family-focused environment for patients and their loved ones.
Yarrawonga Health is also currently seeking expressions of interest for Palliative Care volunteers to support patients and families through companionship, conversation, and practical help.
Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring families feel cared for and supported during their journey.
