Environmental health officer Lauriston Muirhead is the Labor candidate, up against Liberal’s Justin Clancy, Greens’ candidate Dean Moss along with minor party candidates; Keep Sydney Open’s Reuby McNair and Ross Hamilton for Sustainable Australia.
Candidates had until 12pm on March 6 to nominate. The ballot paper draw was then held on Thursday, March 7, with 20 year-old Albury resident Reuby McNair, from Keep Sydney Open drawing No:1 position ahead of Sustainable Australia’s Ross Hamilton then Liberal’s Justin Clancy, Labor’s Lauriston Muirhead and lastly Greens’ candidate Dean Moss.
Early Voting Centres have opened this week in Corowa and Albury with another expected to open in Holbrook.
NSW Electoral Commissioner John Schmidt said planning for a state election begins at least 18 months prior to the event, with detailed strategies and systematic procedures helping to ensure the biggest event in the state is delivered in a professional and seamless manner.
“There are nearly 5.3 million voters, more than 2,500 individual venues, around one thousand candidates and more than 20,000 workers involved,” Mr Schmidt said.
“Twenty-eight million ballot papers will be printed and more than 2,200 voting centres and 200 early voting centres will be set up.”
Mr Schmidt said election staff will visit nearly 600 declared facilities such as nursing homes, aged care facilities and hospitals before election day to allow residents to vote in person on site
