The Need for Feed project, organised by the Lions Club of Australia, has been providing fodder to disaster-impacted areas since 2006.
The hay run was a major success, carrying an estimated 2000 bales to nearly 180 properties around the region.
Many farmers lost homes, infrastructure, fences and feed stores, making the delivery a lifesaver for their farms.
Drivers came from all over the country, meeting for lunch provided by Euroa Lions Club, before beginning the distribution of hay across farms and temporary depots.
Students from St John’s Primary School and Euroa Primary School made artworks for the Need for Feed drivers, thanking them for contributing to the recovery effort.
The Need for Feed crew was later hosted by the Tablelands Fire Recovery Hub in Ruffy, where they ate a meal provided by Elgar’s and Karva.
The evening’s festivities were complimented by musician Mick Harrington.
The Euroa SES provided an early breakfast for the crew, cooking up bacon and eggs before the truck drivers departed back home.
Colleen Furlanetto, one of the volunteers with the recovery hub, said that the whole event was an overwhelming success.
“We had over 220 people here, it felt like a wedding the way we had it all set up,” Ms Furlanetto said.
“The guys did a great job hosting, they said they felt treated like royalty.”
Ms Furlanetto told Country News that while the rain had brought some green back to the landscape, the regrowth lacked the nutrients needed for suitable feed.
“The grass has colour, but it's not got any oomph about it to actually do anything for stock,” Ms Furlanetto said.
“It will take ages for there to be any nutrients in there.“
The hay deliveries will provide relief for farmers that are wrestling with the struggles of keeping their stock well fed.
