The one-day event offers local carers practical support, expert advice and opportunities to connect close to home.
The program is designed to give carers much-needed space to breathe, with flexible attendance options.
Carers can drop in for specific sessions or stay for the full day at Echuca Workers, 165-171 Annesley St, Echuca.
Activities include education sessions on caring for yourself, with presentations from Dementia Australia, Anglicare, Bendigo Mental Health, Carer Gateway and Gather My Crew.
Financial and practical support information covers carer payments and Services Australia supports, as well as an emergency care planning workshop.
Creative and wellbeing activities feature mindful colouring and a ‘come and try’ Qi Gong session.
Morning tea, lunch and shared spaces throughout the day provide opportunities to connect with local services and other carers.
Carers Victoria regional carer navigator for Loddon, Campaspe and Goulburn Abbey Brown said she found that no two days were the same in her role supporting carers.
“I create opportunities for carers to connect with practical support through local events where they can take time out and feel less alone,” she said.
Ms Brown works with community groups and services to highlight the vital role of carers.
“Being able to support carers, acknowledge the incredible role they play and introduce them to a service that can genuinely support them in their caring role is nothing short of rewarding,” she said.
Regional carers face particular challenges, according to Ms Brown.
“Carers value local, practical support and connection, but they’re up against service shortages, complex systems, travel demands and financial strain,” she said.
“Especially in regional areas, those pressures add up quickly, and many don’t identify as carers early enough to access help.”
At carer events, Ms Brown observes the power of connection.
“Carers often tell me the simple act of being in a room with people who ‘get it’ makes a difference,” she said.
“They gain practical service information, but just as importantly, they gain a shared voice and a renewed sense that they’re not navigating this alone.”
