The second Gather Round on the Murray will take place on Saturday, March 15 at JC Lowe Oval, bringing together football, netball, live music and local hospitality for a full day of entertainment.
The event, hosted by the Yarrawonga Football Netball Club (YFNC), aims to bring the community together while also attracting visitors to the region. The oval is expected to be buzzing with football and netball teams, as well as music lovers and food enthusiasts.
Live music will be a major highlight, with popular band Furnace and the Fundamentals headlining the evening entertainment. Known for their energetic performances, the band delivers a diverse mix of classic and modern hits, covering artists from The Beatles and Queen to Beyoncé and Daft Punk, along with well-known songs from movies such as The Lion King and Dirty Dancing.
Throughout the day, the Yarrawonga FNC canteen and bar will be open, complemented by a variety of food trucks and drink vans.
On the football field, the senior competition will be played in a pool format, with four pools and each team playing two matches of about an hour.
The winner of each pool will progress to the semi-finals at 4pm, with the Grand Final scheduled for 7.30pm.
Netball will run as a round-robin tournament across four courts. Junior teams will take to the courts during the morning session, while senior matches will be played in the afternoon and evening.
Clubs already confirmed for the event include Balwyn, Norwood, Airport West, Tatura, Benalla, Melton Centrals, Wentworth, Emerald, Pascoe Vale, Doncaster East, Moama, Montmorency and Yarrawonga. There will also be a special Masters Football round robin.
YFNC president Ross Mulquiney said the club was proud to host the region’s Gather Round and was looking forward to another successful event.
“The idea for the Gather Round really started with Tyler Bonat, Bridget Cassar and Andrew Mott wanting to do something different for the community, and it’s shaping up to be an amazing event in just its second year,” Mr Mulquiney said.
“This year’s event has expanded with the support of several local sporting organisations. The Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club, Mulwala Football Netball Club and Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club have worked with the YFNC since October/November to help host matches across the day.”

Mr Mulquiney quipped that the cricketers also gave up a home final to allow the event to take place, with special thanks extended to cricket coach Kyle Archibald for his support.
As a special curtain-raiser before the Grand Final, Under 8s and Under 10s teams will also play a match.
Mr Mulquiney said securing Furnace and the Fundamentals was a major coup for the event.
“We are very lucky to have secured again a world-class band like Furnace and the Fundamentals, as they usually only play at large events,” he said.
“You don’t have to be there all day, people can come along in the evening and enjoy the band, the food and the atmosphere.”
Entry to the football and netball is $10, or $20 for entry with bar access. All entry after 6pm is $30.
