The bird life is abundant, as is the natural growth after some recent rain, and there is plenty to explore.
The Edward River district is home to over 148 beautiful parks, gardens, recreation areas and playgrounds.
You could choose one of the various trails on offer, like the McLean to Willoughby’s Beach to Beach walk, or the path through the centre of Deniliquin which takes you along the lagoon system and to the skate park and Deniliquin Waring Gardens.
There’s also the Deniliquin mountain bike trails in the Murray Valley Regional Park, behind Memorial Park.
This popular single track cycling network is perfect for intermediate riders, covering 12km.
If you don’t have your own bike with you, bikes are available for hire at the Deniliquin Visitor Information Centre.
And that’s just for starters.
Following, we provide a few more ideas on how you can make the most of your time in between the vibrant schedule of events this Easter and beyond.
Riverside adventures:
Island Sanctuary and Werrpanakata Park - Wildlife lovers can bird-watch and spot native species along shaded trails. The Island Sanctuary hugs the Edward River and leads you further along the Beach to Beach Walk to the Murray Valley Regional Park. The Werrpanakata Park, meanwhile, is one of a few green spaces you’ll find on the lagoon walk that runs through the centre of Deniliquin.
Boating, fishing and caravan hire - Catch the famed Murray cod, kayak the river, or explore in rented pontoons and caravans.
Deniliquin Parkrun - This free weekly event starts at 8am each Saturday - yes, including Easter Saturday - at the start of the McLean Beach trail. The turnaround point is just past the water tower at Memorial Park, with the full course being 5km. Go at your own pace, and just enjoy the atmosphere (and scenery).
