YMGCR Mens Nine Holers Golf
Tuesday saw 66 golfers vying for the prized Pot round in hot and humid conditions and competition was tight in both grades with very few strokes separating the top 10 in each group.
The A grade was won by Rick Evans with an excellent score of 29 with a very unfortunate Brian Sanders getting runner up for the 3rd time in two weeks with his very handy 31 strokes.
Following close behind was Geoff “Flash” Burgess and Terry Murphy on 32 with John Mason, Digger Dunne and Ray Pritchard scoring 33.
The B Grade was won by Doug Ringholt who defied a twisted ankle and sprained wrist to come in with an impressive 31 strokes, ahead of the trio of Ray Scott, Les Garbutt and Vic Beveridge on 32 strokes.
Denis Beal, Normie Moule, Kenny Dyer and Graeme Lavis were snapping at their heels on 34.
Thursdays Stableford round was played in much more enjoyable conditions with Charlie Hope edging Norm Coleman on countback with a solid 20 points to win A Grade, followed by John Gonera, Don Tipping and Joe Kapp on 19 points.
Steve Hutchinson, Tom Hackett and Lurie Winkworth were then behind them on 18 points.
Graeme Lavis won the B Grade also with 20 points, one ahead of Ray Minette, Ray Scott and Dominic Fotia, with Joe Cilia and Ian Barton on 18 points.
It is again with much sadness that we have to report on the loss of another long time and much liked member of the Nine Holers with the passing of John Pollard last Thursday.
Always ready to lend an ear and have a chat, John had been missing from golf in recent months due to declining health.
His funeral service will be held in Melbourne but will be live streamed to the Willow Room on February 14 and all are welcome.
Vale John, you will be missed.
