State government promises swift transport to the MCG for concert

Hundreds of additional train services have been added and the free tram zone extended to the MCG to help Taylor Swift fans attend her concerts in Melbourne.

With the MCG just a short walk from Richmond, Jolimont and Flinders Street stations, Victorian Active and Public Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams is urging Victorians to avoid traffic on the roads and instead use public transport to get to the concerts.

“Taylor Swift’s biggest ever Australian shows will have the same impact on the transport network as three AFL grand finals back-to-back, that’s why we’re encouraging everyone attending to plan ahead and take public transport to get to the ‘G,” she said.

“We’ve added hundreds of extra train and free tram services across the three days to get Swifties to the shows as easily and safely as possible.”

Around 150 metropolitan train services will be added over the three nights to get concert-goers to and from the show as easily as possible.

The free tram zone will be extended to the MCG along routes 48, 70 and 75 from Friday, February 16, until Sunday, February 18, to help move tens of thousands of fans each night, along both Flinders and Collins Sts to the Melbourne Park precinct.

**Swift transport:** Additional V/Line train services will be added before and after each Taylor Swift show.

Extra capacity will be added across all regional lines, and additional V/Line train services on the Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Traralgon and Seymour lines will be added before and after each show.

The Department of Transport and Planning has worked with concert organisers to plan for extra services to support fans coming from across the state.

There will be disruptions on some suburban rail and tram lines and to roads in the MCG area as well as the CBD.
