Pets are an important part of the region, with more than 5,500 animals registered across the shire.
The consultation, from April 14 to May 12, will outline how Council can manage dogs and cats across the shire.
The forum covers responsible pet ownership, animal risk management, and animal welfare, in compliance with the Domestic Animals Act 1994.
Domestic animals in public and in private spaces can impact the safety, health, and well-being.
Chair administrator, Graeme Emonson said responsible pet ownership was an important issue.
“Responsible pet ownership plays a vital role in community safety and wellbeing,” Dr Emonson said.
“Every domestic animal deserves a safe and loving home, this plan will help Council work with the community to create the right balance of education, support, and regulation.”
The first session focuses on gathering ideas, opinions, and feedback from community members, to help create the draft plan.
Residents are invited to share what’s working well, identify current challenges, and suggest where more education or support may be needed.
Community members can provide feedback online by completing the survey on Domestic Animal Management Plan Consultation | Moira Matters or speak with Council’s customer experience team for assistance.
