Back at Rennie for the first of four home games in a row, as a beautiful winter’s day greeted the crowd at Bull Plain Road.
This was a great game all day as the Timber cutters broke away to an 18-point lead early.
The Hoppers kept on fighting back but in the end the visitors hung on to win by 4 points.
This was a match where the Hoppers youngsters stood up, Tom Kennedy was awesome at centre half back, high marking and defensive punching a highlight.
He was ably assisted by Brody Benjamin whose heart is bigger than his body and his competitive work on the wing was brilliant.
Then there was the clearance work of Jack Kennedy and the marking of Liam Connell which kept on bringing the Hoppers back into the match.
Of course, there was also the bookends who have been doing it for years, Leon Wolfe in deep defence and Chase Strawhorn who kicked another 6 goals to nearly snatch the game for Rennie. Excellent effort by the Hoppers against a team in the eight.
Reserves
Rennie 19.21.135 defeated Mathoura 4.2.26.
Rennie were in control of this match all day eventually winning by 109 points. But this could have been much more as 21 behinds was poor conversion for 40 shots on goal.
Boulton with 5 and Bruce with 4 were the major goalkickers as the Hoppers had more legs than their opponents.
Around the ground Ferguson again played well although his kicking was astray, Walsh was strong up forward and Burns has been a great late season pickup.
Rennie sit 8th on the ladder.

Rennie 1.7.13 defeated Mathoura 13.8.86.
Rennie were up against the top team. Mathoura who are much larger than the Rennie boys, and they also played with class, always moving the ball quickly.
They started off early, winning the ball through the midfield, kicking 4 goals in the first quarter to nil. In the second, the Rennie midfield responded as they began winning the ball and pushing it into the forward line.
This led to a Kennedy goal, whilst holding the opponent to 2 goals. The defence led Rennie in the 3rd quarter, only giving up one goal, with Bassett and the Bruce boys playing spectacular defence.
In the last, Rennie looked worn out with their opponents getting the best of them, kicking a total of 7 goals in the final quarter.
The boys kept their heads high though, as this was a great effort against the top side.

Rennie 25.18.168 defeated Mathoura 0.0.0.
Carrying on the momentum of last week’s win, the Hopper boys came out strong and played with great enthusiasm.
In the first quarter they scored almost as much as they had for the whole season. They were converting plays they had previously been unable to convert, and each player moving the ball well an playing to their best.
In the second quarter the excitement continued with the celebrations after the goals nearly as exciting as the goals themselves. As with previous weeks they displayed great sportsmanship, rotating to different positions and all happy to take their turn on the other team.
The final quarter saw an all Rhodes forward line with Demi deciding that footy was more important than netball this week, and each of them kicking a goal.
Every player this week either kicked a goal or had a huge hand in creating one, and resulted in a big winning margin much deserved by all little champions.

Great effort all over the ground for the littlest Hoppers, with most of the kids stepping up and taking their turn in a Mathoura jumper to allow for a good competition for all kids involved.
Lots of improvement around ‘pack work’ getting some strong handballs out under pressure and really moving the ball more quickly to allow a strong forward push.
Strong marking in the backline during the first half and great tackling from Jetta and the consistent Robbo kept the momentum moving Rennie’s way.
Another great consistent effort from the whole team, with even play whether the kids were wearing a Rennie or a Mathoura jumper (it’s always fun to tackle your mates!).
With skills and courage at the ball continuing to improve every week look forward to seeing what they can do over the remaining games.

Mathoura 47 defeated Rennie 22
The Hoppers had a great start however they just couldn’t maintain the momentum for the full 4 quarters.
Against a towering defence Rennie were unable to gain any rebounds but were patient and worked the ball around the ring.
The defence in Tiarnah and Hannah were tested against a very nippy and experienced team in the GS and GA.
Congratulations to Ebony on being rewarded for her hard work ethic at training and game day.
After playing a full game of B grade she joined in with 3/4 in A grade. Well done!
The Hoppers managed to string some great plays together but were simply out performed by a more experienced team.

What a nail bitter of a game!
This week the girls had 7 players, with young gun Coco Vodusek from under 15s stepping up to fill in. The girls have been working hard at training to build on their team communication and confidence with each other.
This weekend’s game truly showcased their abilities as individual players, and as a united team.
Amazing movement in the goal ring from Danielle Walker and Ebony Phibbs. Allowing the goalers to move and have patience is always a challenge, yet Scarlett York and Alainah Bye were able to execute flawlessly.
With hard work in the defensive end, with Mathoura goalers being a head taller than all of Rennie’s defenders, Celine Collins Bye lead the team with her voice and captaincy to help Coco Vodusek, Maddy Phibbs and Georgia Hope worked the best they could under the circumstances of physical play and contesting.
A massive effort and credit to this team this weekend. Sadly the Hoppers couldn’t come away with the win, however playing the way they did is something to be proud of and celebrate.

The girls put on another great team effort. After losing Lenny to injury the team is working well with the changes being thrown at them the last few weeks.
Soph and Adelle are working well in the ring together stepping up to the task.
The mid court is as always working well creating plenty of space and drives to help create the flow down court.
The defence have been working hard putting on pressure to try shut down the opposition.
Big thank you to Laynee who stepped up to help keep fresh legs on court.
At 13 and a great deal shorter than the defence she was able to sink plenty of goals and open the ring right up.
She is a star player who even managed a perfect postie. Keep up the great teamwork girls.

What an amazing game against Mathoura. It was tough but the Hoppers pushed through and played so great as a team and the coaches are so proud of every single one of you.
Well done down the shooting end with Sophie and young Mia coming up from 17’s.
They played so well with each other and moved around the ring really well. That is all thanks to Amy, Georgia and Jazz as centre and Jess, Georgia and Eden in WA.
Their passes were amazing and the ball went exactly where it needed to be and it helped a lot.
So thank you so much to you 3. The defensive side was so strong with Jords, Bree and Jazz in the ring defending the ball like their lives depended on it.
They fought so hard and did great. Having Ash, Jess and Eden also in WD their efforts were amazing doing their bit delivering the ball to the attacking end. Well done everyone.

This weekend’s game was another ripper for the girls. A big welcome back to captain Brooke Knight who has been missed the previous two weeks.
The girls started off a bit rocky, with balls flying through hands and no attack for the ball. The second quarter was when the girls really began to show their talent and the hard work they have been putting in at training was paying off.
The girls played another team game this week, as always, and it truly shows with the defensive pressure over every ball and putting the plays they have worked on into practice.
A massive defensive effort from the girls, which was carried from all 7 positions on the court.
Great job girls!

U13’s development
Great morning for netball and to celebrate mini’s day. Girls enjoyed their day and their show bag of goodies.
Lovely game of netball to watch.
They have all learnt to play all positions on the court. It’s amazing how every single girl has improved since the start of the year and great to see all the girls enjoying their netball.

Mini’s day
What a way to start the day. The girls were surprised with a day jam-packed with fun and excitement, all before 9am!
The Rennie under 13’s development team were lucky enough to have their mini’s day, alongside the Mathoura under 11’s who too had their mini’s day.
It’s a day to celebrate and show appreciation to the youngsters of the club who without the club would not be provided with the eventful mornings and childish energy which radiate through the whole club.
With an energised start to the day, the girls played amazingly, taking what they practice to the court. Leading forward to the ball, working together as a team rather than 7 different games and listening to each other.
The mini’s is where the girl’s netball skills stem from and the skills they’ll take throughout the rest of their netball lives and it’s so great to see such young girls working together, encouraging each other and helping each other out.
Something they’ll cherish forever. After the game the girls were presented with little goodie bags, full of the netball essentials including a netball, a whistle, Rennie socks and so much more.
The huge smile on all the girls faces really highlighted how much they enjoyed the day!
Definitely an awesome way to start the day.
