After a turmoil year in terms of sport, the Rennie Football Netball Club are keenly looking forward to the 2021 season with football numbers at training averaging 20-25 due to border closures and state lockdowns and a highlight being an intraclub cricket match held in late December.

Major ins for the senior green and white in the 2021 season are Tom McKimmie, Marc Lonergan and Dylan Chung. Out go Tim Hargreaves, who has taken on the coaching role at Barooga, Luke Ednie and Nick O’Bryan.
Premiership coach Craig Ednie is still at the helm for his fifth season and he has been pleased with training numbers with an aim for a lower finals position with Katamatite, Strathmerton, Berrigan and Tungamah likely to be the pacesetters.
The Hoppers are also looking forward to renewing rivalries with Tungamah and Katandra this season as they both re-join the league.
A day to mark on the calendar for all Hopper faithful will be the game against Tunga on May 15 which will be a big day for the club.
On this day the club will celebrate the 1970 senior football, 1980 reserves football and 2010 A Grade netball flags which weren’t able to be held last season as well as the 2011 Senior footy and 2011 Under 15 and Under 13 netball flags.
The Hoppers are also ecstatic to announce the appointment of Jarryd Fountain as Under 17 coach for season 2021, Chase Strawhorn as under 14 coach and Duane Rhodes as under 11 coach.
All are premiership players at the Hoppers; Jarryd and Duane twice and Chase three times. They bring to the juniors, players of the upper echelon who have the life skills and the footy nous which they will be able to impart on the juniors to aid in their development.
The club is still actively looking for more junior numbers so please contact Jarryd on 0448 574878, Chase on 0429 039153 or Duane on 0428 359469 if you require any further information or get out to Rennie from 5pm for training on Thursday.
To start the season, Rennie will host Banyule on February 28 before heading to Chiltern on March 13, Violet Town on March 20 and host CDHBU under lights on March 26.
The club is also releasing their 2010-2019 team of the decade on their Facebook page which is providing great interest.
Rearing to get on court
In the green and white netball circles there’s also a buzz with the club re-appointing Karen Vodusek as A Grade head coach for 2021 with two new inclusions to the B Grade in Nadine Clarke and Brooke McDougall.
Laura Nunn will return to take the reigns on C Grade and C Reserve with Brooke McDougall also returning to lead the Under 17s. In the younger juniors Karen Vodusek will also coach the Under 15s and Georgia Hope will assist the Under 13s with a Under 11s coach still to be announced.
“Junior numbers have been good in all age groups except Under 11’s but it would be good to see more numbers in this age group,” netball President Lisa Starr said.
“Senior numbers have been down; however, we have six weeks before we start so hopefully a few more ladies will come and join our great club.
“We are training every Thursday at Rennie from 5pm for juniors and 6pm for seniors and would love to see anyone thinking about having a game of netball this year. Practise matches are also still to be confirmed.
“People need to realise that netball will be happening this year and it would be great to have some old faces back as well as new ones always more than welcome.
“The club as a whole have missed our green and white army and we are truly looking forward to getting back together.”
Rennie Football Netball Club memberships are still available for $100 or $50 for aged pensioners and can be purchased on Thursday nights at training, on match days or by emailing the club at renniefootballclub@hotmail.com.
