Easter decorations to put a smile on local and visitor’s faces as they drive through the small township of Bundalong have sadly been ruined as heartless thieves have stolen two of the eggs.

At approximately 9pm last Tuesday a vehicle stopped in the ‘park’ at Bundalong, on the corner of Pasley Street and the Murray Valley Highway and stole two of the four easter egg decorations which were placed there just a week beforehand.
Two couples who have put together and displayed the Christmas decorations over the last two years, Jeanette Bennett and Fred Douglass along with Trevor Watson and Sharon Densley decided to use some of the cash left over from the Moira Shire Christmas Grant to give smiles to the local children by buying wood, cutting out the eggs and spending quite some time painting them - before someone stole them.
“We are shocked and disappointed that someone would do this,” Jeanette Bennett said.
“We now have to get more money from the community to buy the wood and more paint.
“So, the community misses out because of some who has stolen our eggs.
“I reported the theft to the Yarrawonga Police, and they took a photo of the missing decorative eggs and were going to keep an eye out.
“The incident was reported on the Bundalong Blurb Facebook page and has been shared across many towns now.
“Unfortunately, we haven't heard any more about the incident.
“I have also now put up a cardboard sign saying ‘stolen’ on the post where the eggs were.
“The local resident who cut out the wood has made two new eggs, but I was in Melbourne until Sunday so I was not able to paint and get new ones up until early this week.”
The two couples, who are all volunteers, work hard to put smiles on the faces of motorists throughout national holidays which is why the theft has been even more disappointing.
“We did the Christmas decorations with the help of a $2000 grant from Moira Shire,” Jeanette said.
“We did this because through Covid in particular, many people were lonely and sad and we wanted to put a smile on people's faces. Trevor cut all the trees out and my husband Fred and I painted.
“Then Trevor, his fiancée and myself and Fred installed them all.
“If you see them, please report it to the Yarrawonga Police Station.
“I hope someone finds the appalling person who stole the eggs - or indeed they feel guilty and return them.”
If you know of any information relating to the theft contact Yarrawonga Police or return the decorations to their rightful home.
