Local Allegro Theatre Company had two nominations in the count, one for Best Play Production – David Williamson’s “The Club”, which received a ‘Certificate of Congratulations’.
The second nomination, which Ian was the recipient of was in the category ‘Recognising achievements in performance and technical amateur theatre and acknowledging the many hours of voluntary contributions community members provide to the vibrant local arts and cultural scene in the Albury Wodonga Region’.
“I knew nothing about this at all,” responded a very ‘humbled’ and ‘over the moon’ Ian.
“How did all this happen?”
“No one told me anything!”
The APT awards had geared up for the annual celebrations and Award Presentations on Saturday, May 2, however this major event was screened ‘live’ instead to all theatre lovers as the Coronavirus restrictions stopped yet another huge regional event from being staged with the usual excited audience gathering banned.
As the submissions had been prepared since January by numerous groups in which Ian has been involved at various times over the previous 12 months, namely Allegro Theatre Company, Festival of 1000 Voices, Wangaratta Players, Across the Arts Yarrawonga/Mulwala, Debutante Ball Yarrawonga P-12 College, Mulwala Public School, Savernake School of Arts, Marooned and other smaller groups, you can only imagine the reaction and the utter amazement by Ian as he heard his name announced via the video link.
Allegro Theatre Committee would like to thank all organisations and groups involved in nominating Ian for this year’s award. Members of the groups were unanimous in acknowledging Ian as an “integral part” of the Yarrawonga Mulwala community. A superb effort Ian Reid.
