Berrigan Shire Council has received funding from the NSW Government to conduct a Flood Risk Management Study and Plan for each of the townships, and their surrounding areas.
The purpose is to evaluate practical and feasible flood risk management options, both due to riverine flooding (from the Murray River), and overland flooding from local storms.
This study will improve council’s understanding of flood behaviour and impacts to better inform flood risk management, emergency planning, and land use decision-making in Tocumwal and Barooga.
Up-to-date models will be used to test and recommend various flood mitigation options, such as levee upgrades and improvements to drainage infrastructure.
Community members are encouraged to share flood experiences, highlight flooding hot spots and problem areas, and make suggestions for improvements that can be investigated in this study.
There are two ways to participate:
• Complete the questionnaire at https://arcg.is/55D0u1. Hard copies are also available at the shire office in Berrigan, Tocumwal Library and Barooga Library.
• Attend either of the community information drop-in session - Barooga Library, Wednesday, September 17 from 3pm-5pm; Tocumwal Library, Thursday, September 18, from 3pm-5pm.
