The celebration comes at a meaningful time for the district, following fire that impacted Katamatite and neighbouring Muckatah.
In the fire’s aftermath, the anniversary weekend has taken on added significance as a chance for the community to come together, reflect, and support one another.
“Recent events have reminded us just how important community is; this is a small town with a big story,” event organiser Don McPherson said.
“The 150th is a chance for everyone to come together - locals, past students, families who’ve moved away, and anyone with a connection to Katamatite - to celebrate who we are and where we’ve come from.”
The event, organised by local volunteers under the Katamatite Lions Club and supported by Moira Shire, will bring together residents, visitors, and former locals to recognise the town’s rich history and strong community spirit.
Saturday’s program at the Katamatite Recreation Reserve will feature family-friendly attractions including Clydesdales, vintage machinery, whip cracking, a shearing demonstration, children’s activities, food stalls, live music, a 150-metre sprint, historical displays and a celebration cake.
Sunday’s program, led by the Katamatite Historical Society, will include open-house historical displays and the burial of a time capsule near a commemorative plaque.
The event is free to attend and open to all community members.
