With a silver ball and chain swinging above her head, along with a high-waisted belt and significant make-up, she appeared among several well-known characters at the event.
And, by far in my opinion, her depiction of the Matilda headmistress character — Miss Trunchbull — was the best of any individual involved in the slide.
Dylan Cuttriss, another of Rochester’s well known sporting identities and a teacher at Tongala primary, was also involved in the slide.
He was not too far off the mark either as he took advantage of recent publicity to make the four-metre plunge into the freezing water as Maverick from the movie Top Gun.
Katie, a significant figure in the Rochester sporting community, is a teacher at St Patrick’s Primary School in Tongala. She and 11 other personalities from the town were involved in the slide.
Katie’s timing, like Dylan, was particualrly good as Netflix prepares to launch a new verison of the movie adapted from the Roald Dahl book.
In that version Emma Thompson will appear as Miss Trunchbull, the major protagonist of lead character Matilda Wormwood.
Matilda is a 1996 American fantasy comedy film co-produced and directed by Danny DeVito, from a screenplay written by Nicholas Kazan and Robin Swicord.
Based on Roald Dahl’s popular 1988 novel of the same name, the original film centred on child prodigy, Matilda Wormwood, who develops psychokinetic abilities and uses them to deal with her disreputable family; and Miss Trunchbull, the ruthless, oppressive, and tyrannical principal of Crunchem Hall Elementary School.
The Tongala event also included football personalities, Harley Reid from Bendigo Pioneers and Tongala senior coach Jordan Souter.
