The project is split into three stages with the area between Burkes Hotel and the town hall the first to be built before stage two behind the town hall and stage three up to Hume St are completed.
Browns Project Solutions Director and Senior Project Manager of the library construction Jason Brown said in the past month to six weeks, all of the contractual matter was aligned as some of the ground conditions weren’t favourable and construction of the underground services was commenced in November, moving along as scheduled.
“We have been working on stage one (between Burkes Hotel and the Town Hall), in November and early December and have been doing the underground services which include the sewer, stormwater and power which connects the community kitchen and the multipurpose rooms,” Mr Brown said.
“There is conduits coming out of the rear of the town hall that is the main power supply to the build so that is all ready.
“We hope to return in January with the plan to start laying the foundations and pour concrete.
“Heading in that direction, the troubled past is behind us and we are definitely heading in a clear direction moving forward.
“We have a clear build schedule ahead of us and should the specific building materials be readily available, we will have a very successful build.
“Everything has been reset and we are going well. Everything should go along smoothly now and we are also starting to revisit the requirements of the town hall as that is also part of this full project.
Stage one of the construction between Burkes Hotel and the Town Hall is underway.
“The first part was to get the library up, moving and progressing and then we will focus back on the heritage listing of the town hall.”
Minister for Local Government Melissa Horne visited Yarrawonga on December 7 to witness firsthand the progress of the library build and was pleased to see a project such as this one come to life in Yarrawonga.
“How fantastic is it to see a project like this one progress,” Ms Horne said.
“These projects are vital to communities, especially regional communities like Yarrawonga and it is fantastic to see the project coming to life for the community.”
Goulburn Valley Libraries Community representative Jess Dowling Bonaddio reiterated how important this build will be to Yarrawonga Mulwala.
“The programs we will be able to run in this new space will be amazing,” Ms Dowling Bonaddio said.
“It’s exciting to see the construction underway and we look forward to seeing the library and performance precinct come to life.”
