In a joint statement, Barooga Lions president Helen Leitch and Lions District 201V6 governor Julie Ballard said with changing times and an ageing membership, the club was seeking younger members who had the time and energy to continue to help the community and follow the Lions motto, ‘We Serve’.
“This year marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Lions Club of Barooga & District. For over five decades, the members of the club have supported the local community, in many charitable and humanitarian causes and at all times have appreciated the strong support of the community,” they said.
The Lions Club of Barooga & District owns the residential units known as Ginya Crt, located at the corner of Barooga’s Vermont and Banker Sts.
“Should the membership of the club be such that it is not possible for the club to continue, the ownership and conduct of that facility will be transferred to another Lions entity,” they said.
“In that event, there will be no change in the manner in which the facility is conducted nor in the existing financial arrangements.
“No residents will be disrupted, and the units will continue to function as at present. Control and ownership will remain within the Lions organisation.
“Residents have been contacted and notified in writing of the potential transfer of the units.
“The rights of all residents will be protected and observed. Should residents have any concerns, they can contact president Helen Leitch on 0429 357 277.
“Membership is offered to people aged 18-plus. The bonds of friendship and the opportunity to have fun while helping the community are some of the many benefits gained by joining a worldwide, respected international organisation now celebrating 108 years of service.
“If you are interested in becoming a Lion, please contact district governor Julie Ballard on 0422 415 294.”
