Last year’s event raised $3,000 for Lions Australia’s Assistance Dogs Program, and organisers hope for an even bigger turnout in 2025.
The sport of Dachshund racing, which began in Australia in the 1970s, made its Yarrawonga debut last year, with 80 spirited Dachshunds competing.
Di Richardson, youth director of the Yarrawonga Lions Club said the day would be an inexpensive, fun, family day out.
“Last year’s winner, Don, is returning to defend his title,” Di said.
“After the success last year, we’re looking forward to an even bigger Dachie Day.”

This year, Heat 2 is named in honour of Margy Wickham, who first introduced the race to Yarrawonga.
Margy, a proud owner of three Dachshunds, has helped unite the community around this fun and unique event.
Visitors can enjoy live music by Les Brazil, food stalls offering pizza, hot dogs, doughnuts, ice cream, and a Dachshund-themed beer from Mountain Monk Brewery.

Children’s activities include colouring, beadwork, games, face painting, and photo booths.
Market stalls will also line the grounds.
Competition highlights include novelty events such as the longest Dachshund and the shortest Dachshund, alongside the first prize: an $800 vet membership with Fur Life Yarrawonga.
