Local children off to Portsea camp

Rotary Youth Director Belinda Pendergast, Rotary President Ron Kennett, Rotary Youth Co-ordinator Rob Wallace and Rotary Past President Cate Febey see the children off on their Portsea Camp on Monday.

A group of Yarrawonga children left for a fun filled week of activities at the Portsea Camp (formerly the Lords Mayor Camp) early on Monday morning

This is the first year the camp has resumed since it was suspended over the three years of Covid restrictions.

The camp has been operating for many years giving children the opportunity to have a camp experience that they may not necessarily get to do.

The Rotary Club of Yarrawonga Mulwala, have been associated with the co-ordination and financial sponsoring of the camp for over 20 years.

Current Rotarian, Noel Tinney has been the driving force behind this program for most of this time. This year the Rotary club welcomes the added financial assistance of the Moira Shire through their Community Grants program.

Together with the Rotary club, this support has greatly reduced the cost to parents with a shared contribution of $3000 each.

Throughout their stay the children experience various activities such as: swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, along with beach and environmental activities.

No doubt there will be plenty of stories to be told on their return.
