The Cobram River Rockers is a local not-for-profit rock and roll dance group that holds weekly classes in the Cobram and Yarroweyah communities.
The club recently made a donation of $1000 to the Cobram Fire Brigade and a $500 donation to the Yarroweyah Fire Brigade.
Cobram River Rockers president Derek Wagner said the club was inspired to make a donation because of the way the CFA had protected the community during the recent fires.
“We fundraise a little bit where we can and give back when we can, and after the fire hit so close to home and the firefighters put their lives on the line for us ... We thought, ‘we need to do something to help these guys’,” he said.
Mr Wagner said the brigades were “stoked” when they found out about the donation and that the Yarroweyah brigade was putting the money towards extensions on its shed.
“Hopefully, it makes a little bit of a difference,” he said.
Mr Wagner has been a member of the club for 17 years and said it was a “great little community”.
“It’s just a group of people that love rock’n’roll, love dancing, line dancing and partner dancing,” he said.
Cobram CFA captain Matt Dehne said he was “very surprised” to receive the donation and “incredibly grateful”.

“It showcases what we go through every summer and the community’s appreciation,” he said.
“We are very fortunate that we have local groups that can donate, and it shows the community spirit.
“We also have had a lot of other donations from community members and groups, too.”
Mr Dehne said, with the money donated, they had purchased a thermal imaging camera which would allow them to find hot spots in fires.
“It’s an amazing little tool,” he said.
“It improves better firefighting strategies and allows us to concentrate on the hottest parts of the fire.
“These community donations we have received have allowed us to purchase quality equipment for the brigade to use, and just shows the community what their money can do.”
