The popular event has continued to grow with many locals and visitors taking on the 5km course around the Lake Mulwala foreshore through Chinaman's Island and along Silverwoods residential estate.
But according to parkrun event director Tim Roadley the success wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of volunteers every week.
“It takes a lot of work, but it is rewarding also,” Tim said.
Tim said it is great to have regulars such as Margi Cameron, Janet Schweda and Wendy Stevenson who turn up each week to do their specific job, but the pleasing aspect is the increase in juniors taking up roles.
“In the last few weeks, we have had Jordan Ibbott doing the first time welcome, Summer Ibbott do the timekeeping and Jackson White do the finish tokens. These are all vital roles in allowing the event to go ahead each week.
“Families are a big part of our parkrun. Each week we have mums pushing prams, dads running with their kids and kids trying their best to keep up or passing their grandparents.”
Tim said over a third of the participants at Frank Keenan Reserve are walkers and he encourages more people to come down to the yacht club each Saturday at 7:50am to join in the fun.
“If you are a first timer or visitor there is no need to be concerned about where to go or what to do as each week there is a ‘First Timers Welcome’ that outlines all the information.
Parkruns are free, weekly, timed events across the world, organised by local volunteers. You can also volunteer in numerous different roles too!
“It doesn’t matter how fast you go. It doesn’t matter what you’re wearing. What matters is taking part,” Tim said.
