Ryan was in the Under 21 team and was also named the team captain.
He had an amazing tournament winning the Under 21 Overall title as well as winning the gold medal in both the slalom and trick events and silver in the jump event.
Ryan also lead the Australian team both on and off the water and was awarded the Most Improved skier of the tournament, winning the award from ‘Fluid Sports’.
Also a Yarrawonga local Layne, was awarded the silver medal for the Under 17 Overall and won the gold medal in the trick event and bronze in the jump.
Layne came away from this event with a bronze medal in the Junior girl’s Overall event.
Australia was the winner of the challenge, and the Stokes Trophy has been returned to Mulwala.
Both Mulwala WaterSki Club members train at the Max Kirwin Lakes, spending many hours on the water all year round.
As well as the Aussie-Kiwi Challenge both skiers have been busy, both skiing at the recent Moomba Masters held on the Yarra River in Melbourne.
Ryan also trains Layne in the jump event.
Layne was brought into the Australian Open team as a reserve at the recent Oceania Championships held at La Trobe Valley Ski Club, where she stepped up to the challenge coming home with the bronze medal for Open Women’s Overall, a silver in the trick event and a bronze in slalom.
Her year was capped off with her becoming the Australian Junior girls Waterski Champion.
At the National Championships held in Moree, Layne was not only the winner of the ‘Overall’ event, but also won the gold medal in the trick and jump events.
