The event which is held to support the Yarrawonga Parkinson’s Support Group in raising awareness and funds on behalf of Fight Parkinson’s have so far raised over $2280 with some more to come in yet before the total is finalised, which is already up on last years total of $2100.
The day began with a Welcome to Country before Fight for Parkinson’s Fundraising Manager Joshua Donchi and Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy both said a few words as the walk took off from the Yarrawonga Yacht Club.
Yarrawonga ‘Walk in the Park for Parkinson’s’ organiser Judy Ramsdale said that locals and visitors to town were very keen to donate money to the cause.
The local community got behind the cause, taking part in the Walk for Parkinson’s event last Saturday to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s.

“We had less people take part in the walk this year than last year but we raised more money which is our main aim,” Mrs Ramsdale said.
“There were lots of stories come forth like “my dad had Parkinson’s” or I know of a few people with the disease. The idea of the fun run was to raise awareness of the disease so we can move ahead and FIND A CURE.
“When the money was sent to the Victorian office for “fight Parkinson’s” it was noted we want it to go in the bucket for finding a cure.
“We had several lucky names tickets where there were some happy winners of the prizes.
“The winner of the trolley was Charlyne who is looking forward to taking it on their camping trip soon with all the goodies. Some for cooking, play and relaxing.
“The winner of the body pack was John Lawless with some winter warming collection of scarfs, stylish hat, purse and choices of lotions, creams, nail and body treatments.
Locals and visitors of all ages and their furry friends enjoyed taking part in the walk around Chinaman’s Island on a beautiful Saturday morning.

“We would like to thank those businesses that came forward with produce and products to enhance the value of the prizes, and the generosity of the two local butchers who donated sausages for after the walk.
“Another thanks to the Parkinson’s group for the scones, slices etc to go with the coffee/tea to wash it down.
“Thanks to Tim McCurdy who is always there to say a few words, Joshua from Melbourne Parkinsons Office and the local representative who welcomed us all to country.”
Judy and the Yarrawonga Parkinson’s Support Group would also like to thank all those who attended on the day and to all those who made donations to assist with their fund-raising efforts.
