A piece of excavation machinery caught fire at around 4.30am on January 4, inside the facility’s meal shed.
A GrainCorp spokesperson said no staff were in the meal shed at that time, but staff at the premises were moved to a safe location on site as a precaution.
“No activities were being performed in the shed at that time, and plant operations were subsequently shut down,“ the spokesperson said.
Firefighters moved in to battle the blaze, which was brought under control by 7.20am.
District 22 Commander Rod Railton said GrainCorp Oilseeds produced a lot of dust.
“If disturbed, it becomes a very fine dust in the air and can cause an explosion,” Mr Railton said.
No explosions occurred; however, conditions did present further risks to those on scene.
“A couple of our firefighters were injured during the fight,” Mr Railton said.
“They were treated by first aid at the scene.”
The firefighters sustained minor injuries, and were not required to attend hospital.
Five CFA tankers, two Fire Rescue Victoria pumpers and an aerial appliance from Bendigo were used during the incident.
The last firefighting vehicle left the scene at 1pm that day.
