“As we exercise cautious optimism that the work of our remarkable health care professionals around the country and throughout the region is slowly winning out, we encourage you to stay vigilant and attentive to the information provided by the Prime Minister and Chief Medical Officer, along with our NSW Premier and Chief Health Officer, and all other associated agencies and expert personnel,” he said.
Council’s Business Continuity Plan has been activated, the mayor said, to ensure that services and support throughout the community continue to be delivered where practical and safe to do so.
“Our Community and Economic Development team continues to focus on how the business community can be supported to return to ‘business as usual’ as soon as it is safe and practical to do so,” Mayor Bourke said.
The mayor credited council staff and communities for helping to reach “the threshold of redeeming some semblance of normality”.
“Whilst this crisis has touched us and our community in the most profound of ways, particularly for those affected directly by the illness, and our thoughts always go to the family and friends of the late Beryl Bourke of Corowa, and anyone still currently fighting COVID-19, we encourage you to maintain a sense of perspective, and to keep in your thoughts those thousands of people worldwide who are endeavouring to face the challenges of this disaster with few resources, and even less support.”
Three practicalities to help with the situation Mayor Bourke said, were to look out for one another, support local business and maintain a healthy lifestyles – where practicable and in accordance with social restrictions.
