Mrs Milthorpe will meet with Corowa residents for a coffee catch-up at Barrel & Brew from 10:30am, before spending time wandering around town talking to people and listening to their concerns.
She will then make her way to Mulwala, chatting with locals in the afternoon and hosting a ‘Pub Meet’ at the Royal Mail Hotel from 5pm.
“While there are unique issues in each community, the theme I am getting from one end of this vast electorate to the other is concern at the lack of genuine representation on behalf of local communities,” Mrs Milthorpe said.
“I am totally committed to providing the level of representation in Canberra that our communities expect and working solely in the best interests of our communities without being beholden to a political party.
“If elected, my vote in Parliament will always be determined by what my constituents want and need.”
Mrs Milthorpe says she understands that businesses across the region are being squeezed, and this is exacerbated by rising costs, from fuel to postage and just about everything in between.
In Federation Council area, businesses rely heavily on tourism, which is threatened by the fuel crisis.
Mrs Milthorpe welcomed the government’s action on the fuel excise, but said more needs to be done for regional businesses.
“We need to provide the foundations for our communities through infrastructure and services that help build their future.
“I welcome the commitment of state governments to the new Yarrawonga/Mulwala bridge, which is desperately needed to support both river towns. Federal and state governments must now move quickly to provide funding so it becomes a reality.
“Getting agreement on the bridge location has been a long process, and we do not want many more years of delay on funding commitments,” Mrs Milthorpe said.
Other issues that she will discuss with Federation Council residents during next week’s visits will include health, education and water.
“It is imperative we provide adequate health and education facilities for our regional communities,” she said.
“In relation to water, I support a federal Royal Commission into Basin water management.
“On water buybacks, I differ from One Nation policy in that I am strongly opposed to more water buybacks under any circumstances and will not be under pressure from South Australian members to deliver more water downstream.”
Mrs Milthorpe said she was happy to discuss any of the above issues, or anything else of concern to residents, during next week’s visits to Mulwala and Corowa.
