The Salvation Army captain is responsible for a production line of egg and bacon muffins from the Unitt St kitchen of the army’s headquarters in Kyabram.
By all reports she has perfected her preparation of the popular breakfast item.
There is, however, no exchange of funds for the delicious muffins, which are part of the free community breakfast offered by the energetic and community-minded officer.
Until September 28, Kyabram’s Salvation Army is offering a free warm breakfast to any member of the community facing challenges.
The program started early last month and happens every Wednesday morning.
"We are here for an hour and a half, from 9am until 10.30am, every Wednesday,“ she said.
The addition of the breakfast program to the army’s Monday to Thursday operating schedule is open to anyone, not just Salvation Army parishioners.
Jacky said she was aware of a similar lunchtime program that was offered by Kyabram P-12 chaplain Liz Spicer.
She said it was important to meet the needs of people who were doing things tough in the Kyabram community.
“When it comes to food, the Salvos are generally pretty good,” she said.
While it was egg and bacon muffins last week, there will also be waffles and a farmers’ breakfast on the menu in coming weeks.
She said the farmers’ breakfast would be offered as a special event on August 17.
“I’m not sure what is in a farmers’ breakfast, but we will do our best to create the best one that we can,” she said.
Jacky said people didn’t need to be shy about turning up.
“Anyone can come along for a chat, something to eat, a hot drink and sit in the warmth,” she said.
Tea, coffee and hot chocolate are also on the menu.
Jacky, and husband Lynton, will be spending a fortnight travelling in August, when Salvation Army volunteer Mick Chabonitis will take on responsibility for running the breakfast.
She has a goal of adding to the community service nature of the Salvation Army in Kyabram, suggesting other facilities would be offered in the future to assist people who were struggling to make ends meet.
