From January to March, council called on residents to nominate local volunteers for its Community Awards.
Some 45 nominations were received across four categories, including Volunteer of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, Senior Volunteer of the Year and Community Group or Initiative of the Year.
Council is set to host a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner in Yea on Saturday, May 17 to bestow the winners with their awards.
Murrindindi Shire Mayor Damien Gallagher, who will be presenting the awards, said the strength of volunteering in the community was noteworthy.
“The incredible nominations we received this year prove the value of our volunteers across our communities,” Cr Gallagher said.
“Murrindindi Shire has nearly double the average of volunteering participation, making it clear how deeply community spirit runs through us.
“I cannot wait to celebrate the Community Award winners at the start of National Volunteer Week.
“While we’ll be recognising winners on the night, on behalf of the entire community, council would like to acknowledge that every volunteer in our shire is a champion.”
Starting at 6pm on the night, presentations can be viewed live on Facebook or council’s website, or those interested can listen on UGFM radio.
