The talented 19-year-old Melbourne onballer amassed 23 disposals – 10 kicks and 13 handballs - as well as eight tackles against Sydney at the MCG to receive the award.
That game’s performance was described by head Channel 7 television commentator Luke Darcy as “a huge night”.
After junior football in Yarrawonga, Jordon played three senior games with the Pigeons which included being named in the best players in an elimination final against Lavington.
Clubs who have had a rising star selection receive an excellent package from the National Australia Bank (NAB).
Six footballs, football bags, plenty of drink bottles, training cones and bibs, a coach’s board and one heavy aircompressor – as well as a cheque worth $1,000 – came compliments of the Yarrawonga NAB.
“The NAB Club Recognition Award aims to reward the junior football club of each nominee by providing valuable resources along with financial support to assist in the development of future stars,” local branch manager Linda Motha said.
“We congratulate James Jordon on behalf of the NAB Yarrawonga.”
ClubMulwala CEO Alan Rowe expressed the club’s pride in assisting the YNFC. “We are extremely proud to hear that James won the rising star award,” he said.
“If we played a small part in James’ achievement then that’s fantastic.”
Paul Nieuwenhout of Belmores Chartered Accountants said the firm was very happy that the promising James Jordan was named a rising star. “And we’re very happy to continue supporting the Yarrawonga Football Netball Club,” he added.
Yarrawonga Pigeons President Ross Mulquiney praised the club’s major partners – ClubMulwala, Belmore Chartered Accountants and Kennedy Builders - acknowledging the contribution those businesses have made.
“It is your support that allows us the opportunity to develop not only James, but each boy and girl in the area that wants to play their best footy or netty,” the president said.
Drafted from Oakleigh Charges, he wears number 23 for the Demons, made his debut in Round 1 this year against Fremantle and hasn’t looked back, having played every game this season as we enter Round 16 this weekend.
