A total of $650,000, made up of three grants, has gone towards upgrading the Yarrawonga Common boat ramp, paving the way for the boat ramp directly below the weir to be closed for general public use and taken over by the Yarrawonga Holiday Park.
As part of the Yarrawonga Holiday Park’s masterplan, the ramp and the land surrounding it will be taken over by the park as an additional part of the overall crown land lease.
Upgrades to the boating facility at the Yarrawonga Regional Park included widening the existing ramp to provide a two-lane boat ramp, increasing the hard surface manoeuvring area in front of the ramp, improving the access track, improving parking facilities and installing solar lighting.
Grant money for the work consisted of:
* $100,000 from Better Boating Victoria’s Boating Safety and Facilities Program.
* $450,000 from the Federal Government’s 2020-21 Local Roads and Community Infrastructure funding.
* $100,000 from the Recreational Fishing and Camping Facilities Program (RFCFP).
Works have progressed well in recent weeks with the aim for a pre-Christmas re-opening of the ramp.
An update from Moira Shire Council confirms that contractors have completed works above the waterline.
Last Wednesday and Thursday marked the completion of concrete pours, with the final kerb pour completed on Thursday.
On Friday the last formwork was removed, accompanied by a site clean.
The installation of the beaching around the new ramp commenced this week, followed by the removal of sheet piles from the coffer dam, and is anticipated to conclude by today, Wednesday, December 20.
“The demobilisation of the site is set to start on Thursday, December 20, with opening the next day,” a spokesperson from Moira Shire Council said.
“Our aim is to have the boat ramp operational by the Christmas/new year period with some surrounding works completed after January, however, this will depend on water flows over the next several weeks.”
Moira Shire Council has not been able to complete works below the waterline due to high water flows over the last six months.
