The members of the audience showed their appreciation in many ways throughout, reacting with many hysterical laughs, loud applause and murmuring identifying sounds, identifying with the storyline and the roles of each fascinating character, which definitely gave even more support to the performers on stage.
Besides appreciating the characters in this production, another highlight for the audience on Opening Night was meeting the Playwright, Margaret Hickey in person.
Award winning, creative genius, Margaret, is a ‘local’ author from Beechworth, whose plays have been performed all over Australia as well as read on stage in New York.
Renowned, Australian Playwright, David Williamson expressed great admiration for the quality and talent of many of Margaret’s writings.
Margaret warmly spoke to the audience during the interval, expressing her tremendous delight and honour of being made to feel so welcome by Allegro Theatre Company and everyone there.
Margaret also explained that she felt incredibly impressed by the talent of the cast who have brought to life her ‘Family Album’ play in their own unique interpretation, including the ‘extra twists’ initiated by talented, first time director, young Brenda Spilva.
Margaret was also generous in donating three of her published books personally signed and then presented to three lucky special hidden ticket winners.
On Saturday morning, Margaret sent a special text to Allegro Theatre Company President Barb MacDermid.
“Thank you Barb! It was such a wonderful evening and I was so impressed with Allegro. What a talented bunch you all are! Many thanks for your support.”
Be sure not to miss the last two shows, this Friday, November 24 and Saturday, November 25 at 7.30pm to support one of the local creative, hardworking communities.
