Young local runner 11 year old Declan Wood has committed to running or walking one kilometre a day, every day for the month of April - and has challenged all family, friends and the Yarrawonga community to do the same.
Declan also did the challenge in March and totalled 86kms which he thinks he can overtake in April.
“I find it helps relieve any stress or anxiety I feel and makes me feel happier,” Declan said.
“Now I want others to join me by attempting the challenge or to share/follow my journey to promote mental health awareness.
He has encouraged people to do the 30-day streak - walk, run, ride or scooter to help get outdoors as a family and help boost everyone’s mood.
He has also created an everyday hero page raising money for Beyond Blue which is currently just below halfway to his goal of $1000.
“I’ve created this page because I want to make a difference,” Declan said.
“I’m inspired by the work that Beyond Blue does and want to support them.
“Every donation helps and makes a significant impact to mental health in Australia, so thank you for your generosity.”
