Police crackdown on e-scooters and e-bikes
Local police are asking riders to keep safety front of mind this summer with Operation Interceptor now underway until February 28, 2026.
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
The operation, run by Cobram Highway Patrol and including Yarrawonga, is part of the Road Safety Action Plan, aiming to keep pedestrians safe and ensure e-scooter and e-bike riders are doing the right thing.
You can expect to see high-visibility patrols, both on foot and in highway patrol cars, out in the community checking for compliance.
Riders may be asked to take a breath or drug test, and non-compliant e-scooters or e-bikes could be impounded.
Senior Constable Matt Slaney said police want everyone to enjoy riding safely and legally.
“We’re not out to spoil anyone’s fun,” Const Slaney said.
“We just want to make sure people know the rules and keep our roads and footpaths safe for everyone.”
Remember: legal e-scooters must be limited to 25 km/h, weigh under 45 kg, and only carry one person.
Always wear a helmet, stay off footpaths, and never ride under the influence.
Let’s all do our part to share the paths safely this summer.
