Petition gathers steam

More than 10,000 Victorians signed the petition against the Dookie REZ, meaning it will be tabled in parliament and require a response from the Victorian Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio.

A petition calling for Dookie and the Goulburn Valley to be excluded from a proposed renewable energy zone has passed 10,000 signatures, triggering a mandatory ministerial response in Parliament.

The Protect Dookie and Goulburn Valley Group’s campaign will be tabled in the upper house by State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell, who sponsored the petition.

It will be tabled during the next sitting week, in the last week of July.

Victorian Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio will be required to respond after the threshold was reached.

Protect Dookie and the Goulburn Valley Group spokesperson Jodie Fleming thanked supporters across Victoria.

“We want to say thank you to everyone in Victoria for backing us, and backing farming,” she said.

Ms Lovell said the milestone reflected the region’s view of Dookie’s agricultural significance.

“The region recognises that Dookie is special, with unique soil that has high agricultural value. We want to preserve and protect that value,” she said.
