Police investigate a potentially explosive device in Benalla

Officers originally attended the scene to collect a box of ammunition left by a previous party, but upon attending the scene located a potentially explosive device, as well as a machete.

The resident, a 51-year-old man, was arrested at the scene.

He will be interviewed in relation to the weapon.

A cordon remains in place, and there is no ongoing danger to the public.

Officers from the Bomb Response Unit will attend the scene in the morning of Thursday, September 24.

The investigation is ongoing.
