As Victoria approaches another bushfire and grassfire season, it’s vital that animal owners have a clear plan in place.

Whether you have a single horse, a small hobby farm, or a large livestock property, knowing what to do before, during and after a fire can make all the difference.

The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is hosting a free community information session designed to help you prepare for the safety and welfare of your animals in an emergency. You’ll learn practical strategies for:

Creating a bushfire plan that includes animals.
Safe evacuation procedures for horses, livestock and pets.
Setting up defendable areas and firebreaks on rural properties.
Managing feed, water and shelter during high-risk days.
Understanding animal behaviour in emergencies.

This session is an opportunity to hear from CFA experts, ask questions specific to your property, and walk away with resources you can put into action immediately.

Bushfires can spread rapidly, and in many cases, there may be only minutes to act. Planning ahead is the most effective way to protect lives – both human and animal. Even if you believe your property is low-risk, unpredictable weather and fire conditions mean preparation is essential.
