The Real Estate Sleep Out 2019 is an event designed to raise money and awareness for Father Chris Rileys Youth off The Streets.
Youth Off The Streets is a non-denominational community organisation working for disadvantaged young people who may be homeless, drug dependent and/or recovering from abuse and supports these young people to work to turn their lives around and overcome immense personal trauma such as neglect, physical, psychological and/or emotional abuse.
On any given night there are 43,555 young people suffering from homelessness in Australia.
The Real Estate Sleep Out 2019 is happening in four locations around Australia on Monday, August 19 including the Sunshine Coast, Bondi Beach, Port Macquarie and here in Yarrawonga.
This year the OKFN team wanted to move into a higher gear with their community involvement.
So together they created what they call “our give to grow day”.
All of the team have donated a day of their time to give back to different charities, these have included fun runs for causes, time spent with the elderly, cuppa for cancer, Good Friday appeal and now the real estate sleep out.
“This was chosen because we recognise we are so lucky our industry is so rewarding. We put people in houses every day, this charity has a real synergy with us and as real estate agents it resonates with all of us,” Director of First National O’Meara Kennedy Real Estate Danielle Kennedy said.
“To sleep out for one night and help make a difference to the lives of the approximate 43,000 young people that are homeless is just a small sacrifice.
“We would also like to greatly thank Byrne Removalists for the generous donation of cardboard boxes to sleep on, Lambtastic for keeping us warm with some delicious food for the evening and the Lions Club of Yarrawonga for providing breakfast for us.”
The event will commence at 6.30pm down the Rotunda end of the Yarrawonga Foreshore and will include a special guest speaker Brother Doug Walsh.
For more than three decades, Br Doug Walsh has brought passion and commitment to his role as President of the Vinnies Soup Van Program in Victoria.
Br Doug is the kind who would lend his voice to strategic planning one minute and happily spend time washing down the soup vans the next.
In 2015, he was honoured with the Order of Australia medal for services to the community through Vinnies.
First National O’Meara Kennedy Real Estate ask you to register to join them on Monday, August 19 by the foreshore to sleep out or welcome that you contribute through donation at www.realestatesleepout.com.au.
