More than 660 hot rods from throughout Australia are expected to converge on Yarrawonga Mulwala from this Friday to Sunday, November 7-9.
The much-loved annual Lake Mulwala Rod Run is set to deliver another outstanding weekend, with registration on Friday at Mulwala Water Ski Club from 3.00pm to 8.00pm and on Saturday morning.
From 5pm – 9pm on Saturday, locals and visitors will see hot rods of all colours and car-makes up to the year 1975 with rock n roll music and dancing outside of the Yarrawonga Town Hall, as well as live entertainment.
Northern Suburbs Street Rod Club member Mick Grech said at least 50 entrants are bringing a second car, totalling well over 700 rods and classic cars, which will be a huge spectacle.
“This event has truly become one of the most popular events in the country,” Mr Grech said.
“In our 13th year, we appreciate the towns letting us take over for the weekend and for the support we receive from businesses in the towns with a special mention to Moira Shire Council, Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and the Mulwala Water Ski Club, as well as the guidance received from Victorian Police and the many hours put in by the guys and girls at Northern Suburbs Street Rod Club (NSSRC).”
Locals will have the opportunity to ride in these beaut hot rods from designated pick up and drop off points. Last year’s rides were loved by locals, especially children.
On Sunday, JC Lowe Oval will host the Repco Show and Shine with several further competitions on offer.
Funds raised from auctions and gold coin donations at the gate during Sunday’s Show and Shine assist the NSSRC in contributing back into the local community.
Victoria Police have worked closely with event organisers to provide this well-known event to the twin towns and encourage the community to show its support by helping make it a fun, safe, and fantastic event for everyone.
A number of police will be attending the event to ensure community and road safety compliance as there will be road closures around the Yarrawonga CBD on Saturday with parking in Belmore Street restricted to entrants only.
All road rules apply to all vehicles involved in the cruise at all times and penalty notices will be issued to any driver seen to be non-compliant.
Consumption of alcohol is restricted to licensed premises only and pedestrians and entrants watching the cruise will be restricted to footpaths.
Before heading to Belmore Street to watch the rods cruise the main street, head down to the Yarrawonga Showgrounds for the Katamatite Vintage Tractor and Engine Club (KVT&EC) vintage tractor pull from 10.30am.
Come along and watch tractors from the 1920s to 1970s pull the sled with entry free, however donations are accepted.
A food van will also be onsite so bring the children down and enjoy the fun.
